Paving the way for rangatahi to excel through skateboarding.

About Drop Deep Skateboarding

What We Do

Engaging, activating, and connecting rangatahi is at the heart of what we do. Our goal is to challenge and empower rangatahi, helping them unlock their full potential and invest in their development.

Everything we do is co-designed with rangatahi, fostering their organizational skills, sense of responsibility, and a strong sense of belonging within our community.

Drop Deep cultivates a positive and inclusive culture of connectedness, encouraging participation, and striving for excellence.

We achieve this by providing opportunities for rangatahi to:

  • Challenge themselves in skateboarding skills.

  • Receive mentorship from professional skateboarders and community role models.

  • Develop character and personal growth.

  • Connect within a team environment.

Our story

In 2011, as a parent of a passionate teenage skateboarder, I noticed the lack of opportunities for his age group to grow and develop their skateboarding skills. It became clear to me that while other sports offered ample chances for growth, skateboarding was often overlooked. Inspired to create an event that would give my son and others like him the opportunity to compete and build confidence, I delved into the skateboarding culture and ran my first skateboarding competition. On this journey, I gained a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by our rangatahi on a daily basis. I witnessed firsthand the transformative power of providing young people with understanding, challenges, and a sense of community built around their passion. Since then, Drop Deep Skateboarding has been dedicated to empowering rangatahi and creating meaningful opportunities for their growth and development.

Our involvement in New Zealand’s skateboarding community

Drop Deep takes the lead in initiating competitions, events, and community outreach programs. We offer event management services, expertise, consultancy, access to professional skateboarders, photographers, filmers, and equipment such as ramps and rails.

Over the years, we have organized skateboarding tours across the North Island, visiting schools and skateparks to raise awareness about the impacts of bullying.

Drop Deep has designed, built, and supplied portable skate parks for notable events like The Parachute Festival, The Revolution Tour, and Festival One.

Our own community events include the Waitangi Park Comps, Wellington Winter Skate Jams, TBOP Skateboarding Summer Camp, Hamilton Skate or Die Comp, Wellington, Taranaki, and Waikato Regional Secondary School Skateboarding Series, The Three Day Online Challenge, The Lockdown Challenge, Taranaki Easter Comps, Katikati Skate Comp and Demo, and The Western Bay of Plenty Summer Series.

We are proud sponsors and suppliers for various events including the Waifest Youth Expo, Cheapskate Grom Skateboard Comp, Empire Street Comp, Kapiti Youth Fest, Ngaruawahia Skate Jam, Acid Bowl Invitational, Daniel Gemmell's Otaki Skate Comp, Festival of the Arts, and Christmas In The Pa.

At Drop Deep, we value the time spent skating together, sharing meals, and creating new experiences. Our efforts have been recognized on TVNZ's The 4.30 show and featured in local newspapers across the country. Join us to make a lasting impact.
